Using Lazertran Silk you can easily make gorgeous, colour-accurate image transfers to polymer clay! Perfect for jewellery, mixed media, book and paper arts applications; wherever your creativity may lead you!

Materials:

  1. Package of Lazertran Silk paper. Read package instructions for basic copy machine guidelines.

  2. Desired image for transfer - calligraphy, small portrait, flowers, etc.

  3. Polymer clay - Sculpy in translucent, gold and pearl were used in the examples. Light colours of clay will allow the transfer to be clearly seen, and work the best. Other brands of polymer clay can also be used.

  4. Shallow basin of water.

  5. Home oven, set to polymer clay package instructions, for final baking.

Instructions:

  1. According to Lazertran Silk package instructions, take paper and desired image to commercial copy shop to be copied. Lazertran Silk can be used with any toner based copier.

  2. Condition white polymer clay according to brand guidelines until it can be easily worked. Smooth or roll clay out to a flattened shape of desired size (depending on size of image you have selected).

  3. Cut or tear out image from sheet of Lazertran Silk and place it, image facing down, on the flattened surface of the polymer clay. It is important to have the image fully touching the surface of the clay at every point to avoid incomplete transfer. Smooth the image down firmly into the clay.

  4. Allow the Lazertran image to stay in contact with the polymer Clay for about 30 minutes.

  5. Place the clay with the lazertran Silk image attached into a bowl of water. Leave for about 2 minutes.

  6. Swish the water and the paper backing will float off the polymer clay leaving the full image attached to the clay.

  7. Allow to dry. Bake clay in oven at temperature and time directed by individual manufacturer. Cool and seal with acrylic gloss medium or polymer clay varnish if desired.

Tip: If you wish to make an image transfer onto a rounded or domed surface, leave the clay with the image on for an hour then you can shape the peice without the colors cracking.
